Last Sunday I looked out the back window just to check on the
horses. What I saw surprised me. There was a small black bear
on the other side of the corral eating grass with the horses. We
watched for awhile and took some pictures and the the bear left.
Next thing we know, he is up on our deck walking around and
trying to get into the house and BBQ grill. I went and got one
of our aluminum frying pans and a metal spoon and started
whacking them together to chase the bear away. He high tailed
it pretty quick. You should have seen that aluminum pan, it was
destroyed from hitting it. Next time he comes back, I am going to
use a piece of my cast iron cookware. Oh the many uses of cast iron.

Normally we use our cast iron trivet for hot food. When we take a hot
dish to the table we always put the trivet under it. This stops the table
from getting burnt or discolored from the heat. We found another
use for it last weekend when we had a party. We had a ice bucket full
ice that we put on the table for guests to get ice for their drinks. It sat
on the table all night with the ice. When the party was over we removed
it from the table and low and behold, the cold from the ice bucket had
discolored our table. As an experiment we put the ice bucket back on, but
this time using the cast iron trivet. No discoloring from the cold.

If you just went to home show or garden show and watched a
demonstration on cooking with the latest and not so greatness,
your probably enjoyed the jokes and the free food. Then the
demonstrator said, that the full price was something like
$2,888.00. But then he said “wait” that’s not all. He tossed
in some more stuff and then knocked the price down to
$1,780.00. Wow! He then said the first two to raise their hands
get it for $1,600.00. Upshot your hand and out came your credit
card. Ouch, don’t cry, you just did a bad impulse buy. For a couple
of hundred bucks you could have bought several great pieces of
pre seasoned cast iron cookware that would have lasted you
a lifetime. Think before you buy and never buy on impulse.

With all the different types of cookware out on the market today,
nothing beats cast iron cookware. For the price it cannot be beat.
Sure, you can buy some cookware cheaper if you want it to last
less than a year. Cast Iron is extremely durable and taken care
of will last you a lifetime. With cast iron, you can go from the
stove top, to the oven or even turn on the broiler. If you want to
cook out on the grill, go ahead, the cast iron can take it. Even
if your camping and want to cook over open flames, nothing
gets the job done like cast iron.

If you are removing a hot dish from your oven or taking a
hot dish to your table, nothing will protect your surface
like a cast iron trivet. Putting a hot dish on your counter top
can burn or discolor your beautiful surface. A trivet will
keep the heat from damaging your surface and allows you to
take the dish straight to the table. This also saves you time from
transferring the food to another dish that will not keep the food
as warm. For a low price you can protect all your surfaces.

There are many reasons why I like cast iron tea pots.
First off, I really like the looks of them. They look great
sitting on top of the stove or serving tea to friends. The
second reason is it does not show the dirt as much as
the stainless steel one we used to have. No matter how
hard we tried to clean it, it always showed streaks and
fingerprints. What I like the best is the way it retains
the heat. We can take the tea pot from the stove to the
kitchen table and have tea with breakfast without having
to reheat it during our meal.

With everyone going “Green” for healthier living, no
cookware is better than cast iron cookware. With cast
iron you do not need to use any damaging detergents
to clean it. You can simply use hot water and a brush.
Some people even scrub it out with salt and a clean rag.
Either way you don’t need detergent to clean it. With all
the damaging things we put in our bodies these days like
processed foods and fast food it is good to start somewhere
for more healthier living. If you haven’t tried cast iron for
cooking, give it a try, maybe just a small frying pan to start.

Cast Iron Cookware is the most versatile cookware
you can purchase. Cast iron pots and pans can be
used on your stove top, in your oven, on the grill or
even on a open fire. Try this with your non stick
aluminum pans and you will be buying another one
after every use. Nothing lasts the test of time unless
it is very good and cast iron has been around for hundreds
of years. Cast iron can also absorb a great amount of heat and
retain it which is why it is the best choice for frying.

I know you may never do this with your dutch oven,
but it’s nice to know you can if you want to. There is
nothing that takes the heat like a cast iron dutch oven.
If you used any other type of brand, it would be ruined.
The nice thing is, when your done cooking over an open
fire like this, you can still take it back to your kitchen and
cook on top the stove. If you want something that is going
to last a lifetime and be versatile indoors and out, nothing
works better than cast iron.

Weather you cook indoors or outdoors, nothing is more versatile than
a cast iron dutch oven. There is nothing you cannot cook in them. They
are great for fried chicken, pot roasts, soups and biscuits. You can even
make a cake in them. One great advantage of a dutch oven is that you can
use it on top of the stove, put it in an oven, over a fire or cover it with coals.
Can you name another cooking pot or pan that can do all that. I can’t.
