I may be old fashioned, but I remember the times long
ago when life was simpler. You didn’t have to pay to watch
T.V., you didn’t have to have a phone on you all the time and
Mom called you for dinner by ringing the cast iron farm bell. The
world is better in many ways with the technology we have, but it
is also extremely fast paced. Everything now is instant gratification.
If you ever have the chance, go out to the country for the day where
things are slower and just relax if you can

I just receive a cast iron bell for a present and seeing as
I have one outside I decided to hang the new one in my
T.V. room downstairs. My thought was when I was watching
the game and I needed another beer, I would just ring the bell
and my wife would come a running to see what I need. Well I
rang the bell and nothing happened, so I thought maybe she
isn’t home. I went upstairs to get my beer and she said did you
hear a bell. I said yes I did, I was calling for you. She just laughed.
The next day, I got up and the bell was gone. I went into the kitchen
to make coffee and read the paper. Next thing I know, I hear the bell
and follow the noise. I went into the bedroom and my wife was there
and said, good, you heard the bell, please get me a cup of coffee.

When your camping with a big group, it’s hard to keep track of
everyone. Some are around the camp fire, some are fishing or
doing other activities. So as the camp cook, you can strain your
vocal cords yelling to everyone that dinner is ready. Save your
voice and get a cast iron wall bell. You can hold it or mount it to
a tree. When dinner is ready, just ring the bell. The sound travels
far enough and is more pleasant than yelling. Those that want to
eat will show up and your not wasting your time yelling all the time.
It’s a much more pleasant way to call everyone of dinner.

You don’t have to have a country kitchen or even live in the country
to enjoy cast iron farm bells. Even if you have a modern kitchen the
cast iron look goes good with any color of wall or cabinets. Instead
of yelling all over the house that dinner is ready, just ring the bell
and save your voice. You can yell at the kids when it really matters
then. Bells have a nice tone that seems to make everyone happier.

If your having a picnic and it’s time to eat, you can either shout
at everybody or you can get a really cool bell to call them to dinner
like they did in the old days. It is much more fun to ring the bell and
it adds a unique touch to your picnic. We recently had a birthday party
for our nephew and we used the cast iron bells to start the games we had
for the kids. One game was the three legged race and another was a potato
rolling race. The kids had a blast and didn’t even miss their video games.
Most of the kids had never played games like these and all were worn out
at the of the day, including the parents.

It seems like many people are trying to get back to basics these days. With all the high tec
items out there life is getting more complicated. It’s nice to see community farms are sprouting up
all around the country. People who live in the cities with patios are growing their own
food. Plenty of people in urban areas are raising chickens for the eggs. And through
it all, cast iron bells and cookware have been around. Cast iron has never been out of
style and is as popular as ever.

Cast iron farm bells have been around for many years.
Schools in the old days used them to call children to school.
Farms use them to call the hands in from the fields for dinner.
Even today they are used for the same reasons. There are many uses
for them, but I’ll bet I have the best. We have 2 horses and we let the
out in the pasture for grazing during the day. When I want them to
come in for the night, all I have to do is ring the bell. They come running
in at the sound because they know they will get their favorite apple treats.
This saves me a lot of time walking around trying to find them and
our friends think its a blast.

If your looking for something different to hang inside or outside your home, try cast
iron wall bells. The bells come in a variety of shapes with dogs, roosters birds and other animals.
You don’t have to ring them to justify them, they just look good on the wall. They are old looking, but
in a modern way. A cast iron wall bell reminds me a of a simpler time, when life seemed easier.
The color of most bells goes with almost any decor whether it is modern or contemporary.
