We have a lot of really cool stuff in our house. I have antique
saddles, elk mounts, great art and plenty of great nicknack’s.
The one thing we seem to get the most compliments about is
our cast iron tea kettle. Seems people have seen plenty of cast
iron cookware but never a tea pot. I have to admit they are pretty
distinctive looking. I could have sold ours plenty of times to friends,
so maybe I should buy a bunch of cast iron kettles to give away as
gifts so they don’t keep trying to get mine.

We have lots of modern things in our house. Flat screen T.V.’s, cell phones, DVD
players, video games and such. Maybe that’s why I like to have a few items in the
house that are a bit more simplistic and get back to simpler times. One of my favorite
items is our cast iron tea kettle. They have come a long way from what your Grandma
used to have. Although they look like hers, the modern ones hold the heat better and have
a handle that won’t scorch your hand. I just love the looks of these whether their on the
stove brewing tea, on the wood stove adding humidity to the air or sitting on the kitchen
while you enjoy a great cup of tea with friends.

I’ll bet if you have a tea kettle you have never used it for more than making
water for tea. Guess what, you can use it for more than that. Here are a few
things to use your cast iron kettles for. In the morning when we make coffee in
the kitchen, we will fill the kettle up with coffee and take it downstairs and keep
it hot of the wood burning stove while we read the paper. That way we don’t have
to keep going upstairs for refills. Last weekend we had company over and cooked
french toast. Guess what we heated the syrup up in, you guessed it, the tea kettle. It
made a great impression on the table and stayed very warm. I think next we will
try gravy, I’ll let you know how it goes.

My wife wanted to do something today that had to do with Christmas. We
headed up to a town called Georgetown in the mountains. Every year they
block off the main street and have a very nice Christmas setting. Many of
the towns people dress up in old clothes with top hats and all. They have
singing and music and horse drawn wagon rides. If your cold you can get
hot chocolate or even tea brewed in a cast iron tea kettle that really fit the
theme of the whole scene. You can then take your drink and food if your hungry
and sit by the outdoor fire and just enjoy the day. I think it’s wonderful that
some towns still do this and wish more would.

I don’t know if you drink tea, but if you do, nothing works better
than cast iron kettles. For one, it will keep your tea hotter for longer
periods of time than most any tea kettle out there. Even if you don’t drink tea,
they are just plan cool to look at. You don’t need to keep it on top of your stove.
We keep ours on the dining room table and keep some nice fake flowers in it.
Another great place is on the mantle or next to the fire place.

We love tea and it’s good for you to drink. One big advantage
of a cast iron tea kettle is that the tea stays warmer longer
than conventional tea kettles. It also gives you a great look on the
stove. If you have a stainless steel stove it really adds a rich look.
We like to put ours on top of our wood burning stove. It adds much needed
humidity to the air. Just be sure you keep adding water to it. A good
tea kettle will have a handle that does not get hot.
